Roleplay in general is not set in stone. At best things are usually a set of guidelines. However, there are a few we want to keep in mind for EVERY player. You do not need to read the whole thing in full, the bold points outline things pretty clearly. However, if you need clarification the extra is there for you.
(Terms and abbreviations that may not be clear to everyone are marked with an asterisk * and explained below.)
Keep a Thick Skin. If something makes you uncomfortable, it is okay to speak up. In most cases the other person will tone it down or stop altogether. But keep in mind, you will be treated based on your actions, not what you 'want' people to do.
In addition, this is a global network. People from every walk of life are bound to be here. Our cultural views will not always match. Our philosophies will not always match. In character and in non-roleplay threads, there will be times We. Will. NOT. Agree. Unless the topic in question actually does real lasting harm in the real world, try to keep an open mind.
No Excessive PDA* in public forums, chat rooms, etc. Being people will try to push this envelope, the measuring stick will be: If you don't see it in hthe older-audience scale of Disney or Dreamworks, it’s probably too much for an open public forum. In other words, embracing and passionate kisses are okay. Groping, fondling, straddling, nakedness, bedroom stuff, etc. is not.On that note-- ANYTHING illegal in the USA is not okay, including child/minor/juvenile bodies in a mature situation (regardless of physical age or if they are a vampire-goddess that can change forms), bestiality, etc.
Respect Boundaries. Imagine a line around a player and everything they create. Their character. Their world. Their RP* plot. Their characters’ actions and potential reactions. All of it. Do not take over their creations without their express permission. Do not force roleplays or roleplay scenarios on someone. Get that permission stated beforehand so no one bothers you about it. If you have ongoing permission for autoing* or modding* specific things, make sure that person states as much on their profile. It will be the first place we check before intervening. (Example: X has permission to auto actions on me in chat room. We're besties and it's all in good fun.)
On the flip-side, if you create something for an RP, YOU are expected to maintain it. Don't throw a dragon in the middle of the story and expect other players to figure out what to do with it. It's your dragon. You act it, describe it, motivate it and maintain it, or make sure it is clearly posted that the dragon is open for 'modding' by other players.
This rule goes in ALL situations. Chat. PM. Forums. Everywhere. One-line and Casual RP is expected to respect the no auto/mod rule just as carefully as para players.
No non-RP “Hot Topics” like Religion, Politics, Conspiracy Theories, etc. for Sake of Trolling. Granted, these CAN be interesting and enriching topics when the parties are respectful as they present their views and listen to the other side. However, in well over half the cases it becomes a heated battleground of one-sided conversation, flaming, and very rigidly set views.
IF the parties involved are being respectful and open-minded, this is a rule we will bend for the sake of intellectual enrichment. If it's an excuse for a hate-fest or trolling, then it will be taken down. There are better ways to entertain oneself.
In general, as long as two players are not creating an excessively negative environment, admins will stay back and allow them to settle the differences for themselves. We may instruct them to take it to PM* if it seems necessary.
You Have the Right to Speak up. Now that we filled you in on what you should not, cannot or must not do, we should also tell you what you can do. This is a community, therefore you always have the right to speak your mind as long as it doesn’t harm anyone (and by harming we mean any kind of harm, be it physical or mental damage. This means that you also have the right to tell us when somebody on this site is harming you, and we will try to aid you or advise you on how to deal with this situation. Just please, keep in mind that we tend to be busy so it might take some time for us to respond.
To prevent overwhelming us with requests and complaints, try to follow these steps:
If you have a problem with someone on the site, try to first communicate it with them. We’re all just normal imperfect people, we all make mistakes and have our problems that affect us, so keep your voice down, be fair, just and understanding.
Keep the number of people involved at a minimum. Yes, sometimes it’s good to have a witness, but causing a commotion in the process isn’t worth it. All participants actively trying to smear, shame, and destroy someone with the community at large will be treated with zero tolerance.
That's it. If we are forced to add to the list, we will announce it in News. But for now we are trusting everyone to act with basic civility and respect. If you act in a manner befitting a role player, we will have no need to spell it out.
Definitions:
RP: Roleplay/roleplaying.
Auto (or Autoing): Automatically making something happen to another person's character. Unless you have express permission to do so, it is a blatant act of disrespect to the other player. See Rule 3.
Modding (Godmod, godmodding): Doing things that exceed the range of capabilities of your character. More on autoing and modding here »
GKY: Go Kill Yourself. Self-explanatory. Will CHARACTERS likely say this? Probably. Maybe. But if you say this in a non-RP situation, you will be banned. You may not claim you were 'just playing” or “just mad” or “irritable” or “on meds” to get out of it. Violating a player's right to life in any fashion is not tolerated.
PDA: Public Displays of Affection. See Rule 2.
Spam: Large amounts of useless data that serve no real purpose except to get attention. For example: Writing “Boop” 20 times in chat or PM to bug a player to pay attention to you. Or filling in multiple posts and forums with "I'm bored" or random images and phrases that have nothing to do with that forum.
PM: Private messages. Also shortened as DM (direct messages).
